I can’t believe it is already September, time surely does fly! Yesterday night I attempted to bake a new dessert, but as I was tired, I added less flour than needed and, consequently, failed. In order to redeem myself and treat my family, I found an easy chocolate sponge cake recipe on the Dr. Oetker website. (By the way, I have started working, which has affected my baking frequency, so I apologize for not posting as often anymore.) I have baked a delicious chocolate bundt cake before, but the following recipe requires only five ingredients and is also very tasty, so give it a try!
Chocolate Sponge Cake
- 225 gr. butter or margarine (I used margarine)
- 225 gr. sugar
- 4 medium eggs
- 175 gr. self-raising flour
- 50 gr. cocoa powder
- (I used all-purpose flour so I added 2 teaspoons of baking powder)
Pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius/350 degrees Fahrenheit. You can use either one 22 cm. cake pan or two 20 cm. cake pans to make a Victoria sponge cake with chocolate frosting in the middle as in the original recipe, it’s up to you. Due to the warm weather, I decided not to make any frosting and make a one-layer cake instead. Cream together the butter and sugar, add in the eggs, and finish by sifting the flour and cocoa, folding them in with a spoon. Bake for approximately 25-30 minutes, allow to cool and then serve, that’s all! 🙂 I personally decided to serve with powdered sugar on top, but you can use vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or frosting.
The batter was so delicious that I couldn’t stop tasting it before baking the cake! This is one of those recipes that will never fail you, because this chocolate cake is so simple yet so yummy. Thus, if you’re ever looking for something to do with your cocoa, now you have a dessert to bake 🙂
