Yellow Butter Cake with Chocolate Sauce

Hi everyone!

    It’s a new month, so it’s time for new recipes! Last night I wanted to add chocolate buttercream on top of this cake, as per the original Betty Crocker recipe, but unfortunately I had no powdered sugar. Hence, I decided to use chocolate sauce from Dr. Oetker, as it only requires the addition of milk. All in all, this is an easy but delicious cake!

Yellow Butter Cake with Chocolate Sauce

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour30074227_10156468749714575_152649929_o
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder (I used a Dr. Oetker sachet)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla powder* (I used a Dr. Oetker sachet)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (170 gr.) softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 (180 ml.) cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups (500 ml.) milk
  • 1 Dr. Oetker chocolate sauce pack

*original recipe uses vanilla essence

    Start by mixing your dry ingredients in one bowl (flour, baking powder, vanilla powder, and salt). Next, use an electric mixer to beat your butter and sugar in a separate bowl and then add your eggs, one by one. Alternate adding your flour mixture and milk. Lastly, add the sour cream and mix until everything is smooth and fluffy. Pour the mixture into either two 20 cm./8 inch cake pans or one 24 cm./10 inch cake pan; I opted for one big one. Make sure your oven is pre-heated to 350°F/175°C and bake for approximately 35-60 minutes, depending on the cake pan size. Since I used one big cake pan, my cake baked for approximately 1 hour. Allow your cake to cool for at least 25-30 minutes and meanwhile prepare the chocolate sauce – pour the milk into a pot, add the chocolate powder, and mix with a whisk until it starts boiling, then drop the heat, and keep mixing for 2-3 minutes. Remove the pot from the stove and keep mixing the sauce until it cools. Finish by pouring the chocolate sauce on top of the cake and then enjoy! 🙂 )As a side note, as can be seen in the following photo, I flipped my cake over before pouring the sauce.)

 

     This yellow butter cake is so soft and fluffy, that it can be great even without any icing or topping! It’s perfectly sweet and the touch of the slightly bitter chocolate sauce on top, which has a mousse texture, is wonderful. I don’t know if I will find this sauce here in Azerbaijan, as I had bought it back in Turkey, so fingers crossed!
